Abstract
Both commercial and non-commercial fuels are· used in our country for domestic purposes. Earlier, non-commercial fuels such as firewood, dung cakes and farm wastes were predominantly used. Since the availability of these is currently going dolfn, people are forced to use more and more commercial fuels such as kerosene, LPG, coal and electricity. Since the global availability of commercial fuels is also limited, it is important that these may be used judiciously and their availability prolonged by increasing the efficiency of utilization of these fuels. Keeping this in view more efficient appliances should be designed. The Research and Development Centre of Indian Oil Corporation has developed an improved kerosene stove which bas over 60% thermal efficiency as compared to 35 to 47% efficiency of the marketed stoves. Tbi!l is likely to save 30% kerosene on an average.
