Abstract
In manufacturing refractories, there are a large number of variables in controlling the characteristics of the finished products. In order to remove any defect or drawback, the cause is to be identified by eliminating one after another of these variables. The present study has been confined to only two common characteristics of the bricks, namely, apparent porosity and cold crushing strength. The standard deviation, average and range of the test results have been calculated by Data Processing Machine. This analysis indicated that the refractories satisfied the respective specifications. The performance of the kilns could also be interpreted. The application of data processing has been found to be helpful in analysing the results for maintaining the quality of the bricks as well as performance of the kilns.
