| The influence of origin and calcination treatments on the properties of the resultant
Beryllia powders and their sintering behaviours was studied. BeO powders were derived
from three compounqs, viz. beryllium sulphate, hydroxide and tannate, by calcination
at certain temperatures between 750°C to 1300°C, either in air or in vacuum. The
pour density, surface area and the hydration behaviour of these powders were determined.
From these powders pellets were prepared by cold pressing and were sintered
in vacuum at temperatures between 1300°-l500°C, with soaking times of either 2 or
6 hours. Attempts are made to relate the densification behaviour and microstructure
development in the pellets to the characteristics of the BeO powders and to their origin
(parent compounds) and thermal treatment during the preparation of the powders. |
