Abstract
Viscosity of 1 p.c. H-clay suspension of different fractions of kaolinite, illite and montmorillonite was determined by an Ostwald viscometer. It was found that viscosity increases with increase of the surface area of the clay. The increase in viscosity is more pronounced in case qf kaolinite than montmorillonite and for illite. These variations are due to increasing amount of agglomeration of the particles with increase of surface area of clay and different types of flocculation in suipension, respectively.
