Abstract
Cream-coLmred highly plastic clayey sediments together with a variety of clay, pinkish in colour and contaminated with iron-oxide, occurs in the neighbourhood of Baldakhal and Champamura hills, situJted at a distance of three and a half miles S. E. of Agartala, the C::tpital of Tripura State. The outcrops of the clay deposits are found usually at the base of the low hill-ranges which run in a North-South direction, just after the College Tillah on the southern bank of the river Howrah. These hills are discontinuous and are cut off from one another by broad and deep valleys. The road which connects Agartala with old Agartala, runs at a distance of about l- to ~ a mile to the East of the deposits. There is a kacha road connecting this village road to the area where the deposits occur. The river Howrah which passes through the area flowing north of the deposits, at a distance of about half a mile, is navigable throughout the year. It is possible to transport materials by this river in case a washing plant and a pottery works are erected in this area. The nearest Railway station is Akhaura, situated at a distance of about 8 to 10 miles from this area and the road leading to Agartala from this region is motorable throughout the year.
