Abstract
Andalusite, kyanite and sillimanite are the three silicates of aluminium which form a polymorphous series, i.e. they have the same chemical composition but have different physical properties due to the different arrangements of the (same) atoms composing them. All these aluminium silicates are extensively used in the manufacture of refractory materials.
