| In Nigeria, the Government has supported activities in raw materials sourcing and development with limited funding. However, after over forty-five years of this practice, the nation is yet to reap the benefits from these investments. The few research institutes established with public funds by the Government are inactive in basic and applied research because of the low-level of the technical skills of their personnel, under-funding, poor coordination of research efforts, and lack of linkages with innovative experts in materials research, and non-availability of modern research facilities. A development plan that will enable research institutes in Nigeria to connect with scientific and business community nationally and internationally is proposed. |
