| Abstract |
| The topochemical sintering of barium hexaferrite utilizing
stoichiometric mixtures of BaC03 and n-Fe 20 3/n-FeOOH raw
matetials has been investigated. The densification behaviour of
Ba0.6Fe20 3 in the temperature range of 1273 to 1573 K is
studied with the help of a dilatometer. The nonisothermal
dcnsification kinetics is derived from dilatometric results. A
kinetic relation of the type mentioned in the equation
ln(AL/L)0
·
8 x l/T2 =KIT+ C
is found to be valid in the temperature range of 1323 to 1573 K.
The chemical decomposition reactions that are likely to take
place dming initial heating and final sintering of the green compacts
are interpreted from the DT A/TGA plots. The
microstructural studies of Ba0.6Fe20 3 sintered at 1573 K for the
time durations of 60, 120 and 240 mins nveal that grain coarsening
takes place with the increase of the sintering time. The
Ba0.6Fe 20 3 tupochemically sintered at 1473 K for 60 mins
showed a miximum magnetic energy product of 0.82 MGOe. |
