Abstract
The densification behaviour of powder compacts of technical grade alumina in relation to variations in powder treatments and fabrication methods was studied. Breaking down tbe agglomerates in the raw material by ball milling helped achieving high density. The results obtained in this investigation showed that it was necessary to obtain "green" specimens with density higher than a critical value in order to sinter these to high densities at a specified temperature.
