Abstract
Surface modification of kaolinite by a controlled thermal treatment has been described. The treatment resulted in a prodiict of higher surface area. The surface-modified and unmodified particles have been incorporated in a polyester resin. Surface-modified clay-filled composit.es showed higher compressive strength as compared to those of composites with unmodified clay. Microstructures of the clay-polyester composites prepared using surface-modified and unmodified clays t1ave also been presented.
