Abstract
The types of raw material required for making alumina ceramics suitable for the electronic industry are discussed in brief along with their methods of manufacture. Different fabrication processes for forming these ceramics are reviewed. These include, electrophoretic coating, dry pressing, isostatic pressing, extrusion, slip casting, injection moulding, tape casting and the processes for multilayer structures. Emphasis is given to the last two processes, which are the most recent ones, exclusively developed to cater to the needs of the electronic ceramic industry. The different finishing operations and firing processes for these ceramics are reviewed. The future growth potential for this technology and its current status in the country are discussed.
